The editor of the Reader took issue with my point of view in this email he sent me after I turned in my column "I'll have to dispute your philosophy here. You seem to be saying
it's okay for politicians to break promises since it's not like a personal
promise. I'd say campaign promises are even more binding because they're made to
millions of people. Making promises you can't keep is not an honest effort
falling short, it's lying to get elected. If that's okay, I can see why so many
politicians think that normal morality doesn't apply to them. Not to mention why
so many people are cynical about politics. |
